Sweet Sue, only a year old but coming in at a slightly chunky 17 pounds, she is small but stout. It takes her a while to get comfortable but with a little love and patience she was in my lap giving me kisses in under an hour. Sweet Sue was an owner surrender by an older man who was very sad to have to give her up. My guess is that she has lived a pretty limited and low activity life. She cowers a bit and freezes initially until she is used to you. She plays well with the Cairn mix Wesley but is a bit lap protective and will stand her ground. She and my own Boston Faye had a bit of a tussle when Faye came in to claim my lap. Neither one is a back off/give up kind of girl. :-). She might do best as an only dog although she seems ok with Wesley as he doesn't care and let's her take the lap. She would do best in a home without small children because of her initial shyness.
